Our Parent and School Volunteer Service Organization is the Home and School Association (HSA).
As a parent of St. Michael Catholic School you are automatically a member of the Home and School Association. The HSA sponsored events are funded and coordinated by the HSA to benefit the students, faculty, parents and school. Each school family is required to pay dues to support the various activities and events.
The St. Michael Home and School Association is led by a group of parent volunteers who work under the direction of the Principal. The board is a group of dedicated volunteers committed to enhancing the education of our students and promoting a sense of community at St. Michael Catholic School. Board members serve a two year term. To become a member of the board individuals are required to attend discernment meetings that are held annually in March or April. The board generally consists of six to eight members.
The HSA is designed to help connect families with the school by providing support for student and community events, as well as supporting the parish, faculty and staff at St. Michael Catholic School.
The Home and School Association is a vital part of St. Michael Catholic School. HSA provides families with the opportunity to give of their time and talent to the school and parish community by volunteering for a variety of HSA events. Its success depends largely on the efforts of many people. Our HSA is able to be as active as we are because of the support from our St. Michael teachers and families.
HSA has five general meetings throughout the school year. The meetings are held every other month on Thursday evenings in St. Patrick Hall. These meetings give parents an opportunity to learn about what’s happening at the school. Parents are encouraged to attend, ask questions and offer ideas.
HSA coordinates signups for all volunteer activities and events. All families are required to complete 10 service hours. VIRTUS training is required for anyone that volunteers at a function where children are present. VIRTUS training sessions are held at various catholic school parishes during the school year. St. Michael’s session is usually held in October.
Home and School Activities and Events
Back to School Ice Cream Social
Students and parents are invited to the school to drop off school supplies and meet their teachers. Ice Cream with all the toppings is served in the gym. It’s a great time to socialize and catch up with fellow classmates and parents.
Feast of St. Michael Spaghetti Lunch
The school and church commemorate our patron saint as HSA provides a catered spaghetti lunch for all students, faculty and staff.
The biggest event of the year for our St. Michael families and students filled with games, raffles, food and prizes. The event is chaired by parent volunteers and HSA helps to coordinate volunteers for the evening.
Little Elves Wrap Night and Shopping Day
The school gym is transformed into a Christmas workshop where children can shop for gifts for family and friends. Throughout the year HSA board members are shopping for gifts to be purchased on shopping day.
Roller Skating Parties
Students and families are invited to lace up their skates and enjoy an evening of fun at Lynwood Roller Rink.
Room parents help plan parties, provide treats and organize games for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day. Room parent volunteers also put together treat bags for the junior high school students.
Junior High Christmas Dance
Junior High students enjoy an afternoon (during school) of food, music and dancing.
Teacher Appreciation Week
HSA coordinates gifts and lunches to celebrate St. Michael Catholic School teachers. It is our opportunity to show our appreciation for their commitment and dedication to our children throughout the school year.
School Picnic (Warrior Day)
HSA sponsors a day of FUN for the students of St. Michael Catholic School. The students spend the day enjoying a picnic lunch, playing games and enjoying various activities on the school grounds.
For more information on the HSA or to learn more about how you can volunteer, email a board member at email@example.com. The Home and School Association is always looking for more parent participation to share their ideas, time, and talents to enhance the student’s learning experience. Your support of St. Michael Catholic School is greatly needed and appreciated! Thank you for all you do.
