About St. Michael

ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL

Traditionally, St. Michael the Archangel was to have appeared during a plague in Rome, gathering the souls of those who had died or were in danger of dying. He is also known as a warrior saint, who protected soldiers and provided victory over the forces of evil. He was often invoked by military leaders as a sign of having God on their side. In artistic design, he is usually depicted with a sword battling or standing in victory over a dragon, snake or Satan.

“Defend us in Battle; be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray and do thou, prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God thrust down to hell Satan and all the wicked spirits who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.”

Pope Leo XIII
